Voyager & Caring4Carers

Since 2004 the Griffon Area Partnership has successfully run its Voyager Community group with the aim of providing a social group to help reduce isolation and loneliness in adults with frail, mental and physical health issues within the Griffon area.  Voyager today has evolved to meet the needs and wants of the local community.

Lunches

Light lunches are served on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12pm - 1pm.  These cost £2.50 and includes a drink.

Monday Mornings 10am-12noon in St Nicholas Hall

The day starts with a drop-in centre where users can play scrabble, read newspapers or take part in a craft activity.  We signpost to other agencies and 3rd parties.

Monday Afternoons 2pm-4pm in St Nicholas Hall

We have an Art Club, with a professional tutor.  All abilities welcome.  Come and work on a piece of art over the weeks or do something different each week. We do have a structured timetable for the sessions.  Cost £2.

Wednesday Mornings 10am-12noon in St Nicholas Room

Come and enjoy a cup of tea, read the papers and meet new people.  We signpost to other agencies and 3rd parties.

 Wednesday Afternoons 2pm-4pm St Benet Hall

A different activity each week from talks on local history or bird watching, art and crafts to gentle exercise.  Cost £2, which includes refreshments.  Where craft activities include producing something that can be taken home, i.e a piece of jewellery the cost will be £5, inclusive.

Griff on line

There is also an over 50's IT and internet skills course, this is held in the St Nicholas Room every Wednesday from 2pm - 4pm at a cost of £3.25.  These groups are open to all.

Tuesday - Voyager outreach, 'Just Friends' in Cromer - weekly

Friday - Voyager Friday Club - weekly (starting 6th May 2011)

The Outreach group 'just Friends' is held in the St Johns Ambulance Hall in Cromer.  All out other groups are held in the North Walsham Church Rooms next to St. Nicholas Church.

Outings

Throughout the year Voyager organise a variety of outings to various local attractions.

VOYAGER SUB-GROUPS

Gardening Club

Work on the garden has completed its constructions stage with help from a Norwich based community working party from TNG.  Raised beds have been erected from railway sleepers to give wheelchair access and a gravel path has been laid.  A sensory garden will be planted up soon after the launch and the garden will be used for Voyager groups for a variety purposes, not only growing plants, but for general social use and an Easter Egg Hunt for Krafty Kids.  Invitations will also be sent out to local residents to come and use the garden.

Griff 'n' Chips

This is a lunch club for people with Dementia and/or their carers.  They meet from 12.30pm - 2.30pm on the 3rd Thursday of each month at the Sacred Heart Catholic church Hall, Nth Walsham. There are currently approxiamately 22 regular users, some who attend with carers and some whose carers spend a couple of hours elsewhere.

New group for Griffon P'ship

Caring4Carers

The Griffon Area Partnership also runs a group for Carers in the North Norfolk area.  The group is called Caring4Carers and the aim is to provide a 'one-stop-shop' group for carers by providing  practical workshops alongside stress management sessions and mental well-being sessions to alleviate some of the worries associated with vital support role.  The sessions will include; stress management, training in First Aid, assistance with contingency or emergency plans, benefits advice, specific illness advice, to include medicine and 'handling and lifting', a natural remedy talk, signposting and general help and advice about caring from experts in the caring profession.  This takes place on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month.  On 16th May a new Carers Cafe will take place on 1st and 3rd Monday of each month.
