Police are warning residents in Trunch, particularly the elderly and vulnerable about bogus callers.
The warning comes after police received a report of a possible bogus callers in Robert Close earlier this week.
The caller claimed to be from a utility company and requested to check the gas meter.
Access was gained at the address in Robert Close where the caller was taken into the garage before trying to distratced the homeowner away from the garage.
The suspect is described as, white, around 5ft 8-6ins tall, of meduim build and waering a blue fleece and blue trousers. He was seen to drive off in a white VW van.
Sgt Kersty Brooks said:" We are urging people to be vigilant and avoid opening the door to strangers. Bogus Officials can operate in any location. Never allow strangers entry to your home unless you are completely satisfied with their identity, this can be verified by calling the company, whilst leaving the caller outside, behind a locked door".
